Dec 30, 2019 | Women's Basketball
MANHATTAN, Kansas – For the fifth time in the last six weeks, Kansas State redshirt freshman center Ayoka Lee has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week in an announcement by the league office.
Lee is K-State's first five-time Big Freshman of the Week recipient and the 14th player in Big 12 history to earn five or more Big 12 Freshman or Rookie of the Week honors. She is the only player in the history of the Big 12 to capture the honor in five of the first eight weeks of a season.
The product of Byron, Minnesota, continued her double-double streak to four and joined some elite company in program history while doing so.
Against UTRGV in K-State's first game after the holiday break, Lee carded 12 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal. She has hauled in 10 or more rebounds in eight games and has blocked two or more shots in nine games.
With her three blocks, Lee moved into fourth on the K-State freshman season blocks list with 35.
Lee is the first freshman and sixth player overall in program history to record four or more consecutive double-doubles. She is the first K-State player since Shalee Lehning in 2008 to register four of more consecutive double-doubles.
Overall, Lee has seven double-doubles this season and is second in program history for double-doubles in a freshman season behind Kendra Wecker's school record of 12 in the 2001-02 season.
Lee is the Big 12 freshman leader in rebounds (11.0 rpg), blocks (3.2 bpg), offensive rebounds (4.6 orpg) and defensive rebounds (6.5 drpg). She is second among the league's freshmen in scoring (15.6 ppg) and field goal percentage (.551).
Kansas State begins its 24th season of Big 12 action on Sunday, January 5, against (19/21) West Virginia. Sunday's game will tip at 12 p.m., and tickets can be purchased by calling (800) 221-CATS or by visiting kstatesports.com/tickets.
Sunday's game will be broadcast on FSN and available on the K-State Sports Network and for free on kstatesports.com.
