Mar 23, 2019 | Women's Golf
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Kansas State women's golf team had a strong showing Saturday as the Wildcats carded a 4-under par 284 during the second round of the MountainView Collegiate Invitational held at the par-72, 6,227-yard Preserve Golf Club.
The Wildcats' round-two performance tied their season best, which was during the second round of the Texas State Invitational on February 11. K-State is still deadlocked in ninth place with Houston at 3-over par 579 going into Sunday's final round.
"I am proud of the team head coach Kristi Knight said. "An under-par round is always good. We appeared to do a good job of leaving a shot we did not like behind. We did not take it to the next shot or hole. I am looking forward to watching them play tomorrow. They all did a good job it was a team effort."
Sophomore Niamh McSherry picked up right where she left off by carding a 1-under par 71 in the second round. McSherry picked up an eagle on hole three, two bogeys and a birdie on the back nine. The Lurgan, Northern Ireland native is tied for 10th place with a score of 3-under par 141.
Following McSherry on the Wildcat leaderboard were senior Chloe Weir and sophomores Ella Adams and Reid Isaac as all are knotted up in 31st place with a score of 2-over par 146. Freshman Heather Fortushniak is tied for 69th place at 12-over par 156. Sophomore Darby Deans and Freshman Briony Bayles, who are both competing as individuals, are tied for 54th and 62nd place at 6-over par 150 and 9-over par 153, respectively.
Texas State held its first-place spot at 13-under par 563. The Bobcats hold a four-stroke advantage over second-place UNLV. UNLV's Polly Mack sits atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under par 137.
