Mar 06, 2019 | Women's Basketball
MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State junior forward Peyton Williams added another honor to her ledger for the 2018-19 season, as she earned her first Big 12 Player of the Week honor on Wednesday.
This was the 29th time that a Wildcat has earned the weekly Big 12 honor and the third time in the Jeff Mittie era.
Williams tallied 18 of her game-high 24 points in the second half, as she helped K-State overcome a 14-point halftime deficit on Monday night at Oklahoma State to send K-State to a 68-58 win. This was K-State's fifth straight road win and, overall, the fifth consecutive win for K-State to end the season.
Williams notched her Big 12-leading 14th double-double of the season with 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting and a 9-of-11 effort from the free throw line. She pulled in 14 rebounds, including 13 on the defensive end. She added four steals, three assists and one block to her final line in 39 minutes.
The All-America candidate from Topeka, Kansas, is tied for third in program history for double-doubles in a season. Williams finished Big 12-play by averaging a double-double with 16.2 points and 10.0 rebounds. She is the first Wildcats to average a double-double in league play since Kendra Wecker in the 2004-05 season.
K-State (20-10, 11-7 Big 12), as the No. 5 seed, will face the No. 4 seed West Virginia (20-9, 11-7 Big 12) on Saturday, March 9, in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at Chesapeake Energy Arena with a tip time of 11 a.m.
