K-State Golfers Improve on the Leaderboard after Round Two
May 14, 2019 | Men's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. – Following an up-and-down first round, Kansas State men's golfers Jeremy Gandon, Jacob Eklund and Roland Massimino all made strides up the leaderboard during the second round of the NCAA Athens Regional on Tuesday at the par 71, 7,253-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
Eklund carded a 1-over par 72 during round two to move up four slots and secure a tie for 28th place heading into Wednesday's final round at 4-over par 146. Gandon tied for the second-largest jump on Tuesday, as the Charpey, France native improved 20 spots with an even-par 71. He is in a tie for 30th at 5-over par 147.
Massimino moved up one spot on the leaderboard, carding a 4-over par 75. He is currently in a tie for 49thplace at 9-over par 151.
"Jake and Jeremy had solid rounds today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "The conditions were more favorable for scoring. However, the hole locations made it difficult to get many birdie opportunities. Roland struggled a little bit off the tee and wasn't able to get much going. Overall, the scores are pretty high here, so a low round tomorrow could move these guys up quite a bit."
Georgia's duo of Spencer Ralston and Davis Thompson moved into a tie for first after the second round, as both players are at 4-under par 138 at their home golf course. Stephen Osborne of Nevada and John Augenstein and Will Gordon of Vanderbilt are a shot back and tied for third.
The final round of the NCAA Athens Regional tees off on Wednesday with Massimino starting at 9:20 a.m. (ET), while Gandon is at 9:42 a.m., and Eklund at 9:53 a.m. Live results can be followed at www.golfstat.com.
