
Mesquita to Represent Portugal at World University Games

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women's tennis senior Ines Mesquita has been selected to represent Portugal at the 2019 Summer World University Games in Naples, Italy, as announced by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
This will mark the second time Mesquita has represented her country at the Summer World University Games, which occur every two years, as she was selected in 2017 when the Games were held in Chinese Taipei. A native of Lourinhã, Portugal, Mesquita reached the third round in both the women's singles and mixed doubles brackets in the 2017 World University Games.
The tennis competition will take place July 5-13 at the Naples Tennis Club. Each participating country will be allowed to enter a maximum of two men and two women into the field.
The 30th World University Games, known as the Universiade, begin July 3 and run through July 14. The Universiade incorporates educational and cultural aspects into 12 days of sports competitions, allowing university student-athletes from all over the world to celebrate with the host city in a true spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.
Mesquita owns a career record of 44-32 over three seasons at K-State, including a 23-7 mark during her sophomore season (2017-18). In doubles, Mesquita produced a team-best 16-11 record during her junior season. She is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and was named Big 12 Player of the Week in her freshman campaign.
K-State finished the 2019 spring season with a 13-11 record and an appearance in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Big 12 Championship.
