MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State track and field junior Aaron Booth will represent New Zealand at the 2019 Summer World University Games in Naples, Italy this weekend, where he was selected as the country's flag bearer for the opening ceremony.
Booth, of Auckland, New Zealand, will compete in the men's decathlon competition at the World University games, where he earned a bronze medal at the games in 2017. This year marks Booth's third-career appearance at the Summer World University Games.
This season for the Wildcats, Booth earned First Team All-America honors in the men's decathlon after finishing sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, scoring 7,680 points, which ranks eighth in K-State outdoor history.
During the indoor season, Booth earned Second Team All-America honors in the men's heptathlon, after breaking the New Zealand National record earlier in the year by scoring 5,819 points at the Razorback Invitational.
The 30th World University Games, known as the Universiade, began on July 3 and run through July 14, with the track and field events taking place July 8-13.
The World University Games is a competition that is held every two years, being the second biggest multi-sport competition in the world, behind only the Olympics. The Universiade incorporates educational and cultural aspects into 12 days of sports competitions, allowing university student-athletes from all over the world to celebrate with the host city in a true spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.
