Martin, Carter Collect Big 12 Weekly Awards

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Fueling K-State to a series sweep of Oklahoma, Shelby Martin was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week while Aliyah Carter was tabbed Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Martin turned in the nation's first triple-double in 2020, and first by a Wildcat since 2014, Friday night with 38 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs. In the five-set win, Martin equaled her career high with 11 kills, which came at a .769 clip to tie the program record for hitting percentage in a five-set match.
Martin also handed out 39 assists (13.00 per set) in a straight-set win over the Sooners on Thursday, helping the Cats to a .257 team efficiency. For the week, Martin averaged 9.62 assists per set and turned in a .625 hitting percentage in K-State's first season sweep of Oklahoma since 2017.
A senior transfer, Martin ranks fifth in the Big 12 this season in assists per set with 9.74 and is fourth among active players in career assist with 2,925.
Carter logged 17 kills in each outing against the Sooners, leading all players in the pair of victories. In Friday's five-set win, the true freshman outside hitter recorded a career-best six blocks. In the weekend sweep, Carter averaged 4.25 kills per set to go with seven digs and seven blocks.
The Dubuque, Iowa, product leads the Cats in kills (127), kills per set (3.63) and points (138.5). Carter leads all freshmen in the Big 12, and third among all players, in kills per set while ranking second nationally among freshmen.
Both Martin and Carter collect the first weekly conference honors of their respective careers and the 58th and 59th player-of-the-week awards in head coach Suzie Fritz's tenure. The duo joins Abigail Archibong (Defensive) and Jayden Nembhard (Rookie) to be recognized by the league office this season.
