Nov 10, 2020 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Freshman Jayden Nembhard earned her second Big 12 Rookie of the Week award of the season after helping K-State to a road series sweep of Texas Tech last weekend, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Nembhard, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, came off the bench to lead the Wildcats with 14 kills in Friday's five-set win over the Red Raiders. She followed up that performance with a career-high .471 hitting percentage in Saturday's straight-set victory, logging eight kills on 17 swings without an error.
The Keller, Texas, product averaged a team-best 3.14 kills per set for the week while hitting at a .327 clip. K-State swept the season series from TTU for the first time since 2016.
For the season, Nembhard ranks second on the team and seventh in the conference with 3.21 kills per set. She ranks third among Big 12 freshmen in kills per set while teammate Aliyah Carter is first with 3.70.
Nembhard collects her second weekly honor and K-State's sixth league award of the season. It marks the 61st player-of-the-week award in head coach Suzie Fritz's tenure. Abigail Archibong (Defensive), Shelby Martin (Offensive) and Carter (Rookie) have each been recognized by the league office this season.
The Cats' six weekly accolades ties Baylor for the most in the Big 12 this year.
K-State (8-4, 8-4 Big 12) heads into its final home weekend against TCU on Friday and Saturday. Both matches will stream live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. starts. Rob Voelker will have radio coverage on News Radio KMAN and at K-StateSports.com/watch.
