Nov 11, 2020 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz announced the commitments of Josie Halbleib, Molly Ramsey and Jaden Ravnsborg to the 2021 roster on the first day of the fall signing period.
Halbleib is a setter out of Howards Grove High School in Howards Grove, Wisconsin, while Ramsey hails from Roca, Nebraska and is defensive specialist/libero at Norris High School. A defensive specialist/libero, Ravnsborg is from Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, Kansas.
"Each one of these student-athletes has experienced a high level of success in their high school and club careers," Fritz said of the 2021 signing class. "They are a competitive and high-character group of young women.
"Our current student-athletes have done an excellent job of developing and establishing a thriving team culture that values the contributions of all. This class will complement our current team and fit in extremely well."
Halbleib, who transferred to Howards Grove High School for her senior season, led the top-ranked Tigers to a 21-1 record and a state title. In the championship match against No. 2 Waterloo, Halbleib registered a double-double with a match-high 13 kills to go with 16 assists. She totaled 153 assists, 75 kills, 42 digs and 20 aces in 2020.
While at Sun Prairie High School, she earned first-team All-Big Eight Conference and honorable mention All-State honors as a junior. Halbleib led the Cardinals with 1,045 assists during the regular season and added 139 kills, 66 service aces, 159 digs and 115 total blocks. Sun Prairie went 41-8 and claimed two of its six regular-season tournaments while finishing runner-up in two others.
The Cardinals finished second in the Big Eight Conference standings and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Wisconsin Division 1 state tournament. As a sophomore, the 6-foot-2 Halbleib claimed second-team All-Big Eight honors as Sun Prairie went 40-7.
"Josie has the physical characteristics and potential to be a high-level setter," said Fritz. "A lefty, she can provide kill production at the net, in addition to her setting responsibilities. We believe she is just beginning to realize her potential as a player, and we look forward to what she is capable of doing for us as she continues to develop and improve."
Ramsey, a 5-foot-4 libero, is a four-year starter for Norris High School and is the program's all-time leader with over 1,700 career digs. In her senior season, she recorded 465 digs (4.9 per set) to go with 47 service aces in leading the Titans to a 29-5 record and a berth in the Nebraska Class B state title match – its first since 2014.
In her four seasons at Norris, Ramsey averaged 4.5 digs per set and accumulated over 150 service aces.
"We love the way she goes about it," said Fritz of Ramsey. "She has a tremendous work ethic and a selfless, team-first demeanor. She impressed us with her speed, power and athleticism. Lastly, she's an impressive multi-sport athlete who has achieved a high level of academic and athletic success during her prep career."
Ravnsborg was named to the 2020 AVCA High School All-Region 8 Team in addition to first-team All-Sunflower League honors. She helped Mill Valley to a 22-7 record and a second-place finish in the Class 5A Lenexa-SJA Sub-State standings.
The 5-foot-8 libero was named a top-150 recruit by PrepVolleyball.com and racked up 363 digs (4.5 per set) to go with 59 aces in her senior season.
"Jaden plays with a passion and energy that motives all those around her," Fritz said. "She's fast, fearless and possesses all of the intangible qualities that we look for in back-row players. Additionally, she is an excellent student and a highly motivated student-athlete."
The three newcomers join K-State's 23rd-ranked recruiting class from a year ago in Aliyah Carter, Kadye Fernholz, Tessa Mati, Mackenzie Morris and Jayden Nembhard, according to PrepVolleyball.com.
K-State (8-4, 8-4 Big 12) heads into its final home weekend against TCU on Friday and Saturday. Both matches will stream live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. starts. Rob Voelker will have radio coverage on News Radio KMAN and at K-StateSports.com/watch.
