K-State Sweeps Season Series with OT Win at Oklahoma

Feb 16, 2020 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN, Oklahoma – K-State overcame another fourth quarter deficit to secure an overtime win, 87-85, on Sunday afternoon against Oklahoma at Lloyd Noble Center. Paired with its wins over the Sooners in 2018-19, K-State has won consecutive games at Oklahoma for the third time in program history and the first time since the 1988-89 and 1990-91 seasons.

Peyton Williams and Ayoka Lee combined for 55 points and 32 rebounds. The 55 combined points are the fifth-most by two K-State teammates in school history and the most since Brittany Chambers and Mariah White set the school record of 57 on Feb. 9, 2013, at Iowa State.

Williams registered a career-high 31 points, including 25 in the second half, and tallied 19 rebounds, six assists and a season-high five steals. This was Williams's 12th double this season and the 33rd of her career.

Lee tallied her 14th double-double this season with 24 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

K-State (12-11, 6-6 Big 12) jumped out to an early 11-2 advantage, as Lee registered seven points, three rebounds and two blocks to force an Oklahoma timeout. The Wildcats would keep the a nine-point advantage at the end of the frame, 19-10, as Lee finished with 11 points in the quarter.

Oklahoma (12-13, 5-8 Big 12) started the second quarter with a 7-0 run and tie the game at 19, as Jessi Murcer scored all seven points to force a K-State timeout with 8:41 remaining.

The Wildcats responded with a 9-0 run to rebuild its lead to nine, 28-19, with 6:26 to play. Christianna Carr started the run with a three-pointer and would score seven points in the second stanza.

The Sooners ended the quarter with an 18-7 run, but K-State's Jasauen Beard connected on a 3-pointer from the wing before the halftime buzzer to bring Wildcats within two, 37-35, at the half.

Oklahoma took a seven-point advantage, 44-37, with 8:36 to play in the third quarter. K-State responded with a 13-2 run to jump back in front 50-46 with 4:47 remaining. Williams scored eight of the 13 points during the run.

After the Sooners took a brief one-point lead, 51-50, Williams finished an old-fashioned 3-point play on a putback with 4:09 to play in the third. Oklahoma would use a 7-3 run to end the quarter and hold a 61-57 lead entering the fourth frame.

The Sooners started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer to improve their lead to seven, 64-57. The Wildcats answered with a 9-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Savannah Simmons with 5:53 remaining.

The teams were tied three ties in the final three minutes, as Lee finished a layup on a no-look dish from Williams to square the game at 74 with 1:07 to play. The teams ended regulation tied at 75.

In overtime, Williams scored four points to stake the Wildcats to an 83-79 lead with 2:09 to play. Oklahoma closed within one, 83-82, but Lee then finished a jumper after a dish from Williams with 51 seconds to keep K-State in front by three, 85-82. Williams then gave K-State an 87-83 lead with seven seconds remaining.

Kansas State ended the afternoon shooting 38.6 percent (32-of-83) from the field. The 83 field goal attempts marked the first time K-State attempted 80 or more field goals in a game since carding 81 against Kansas on Feb. 2, 2013.
