MANHATTAN, Kan. – Double figure scoring from Ashlynn Knoll and Kindred Wesemann was not enough for Kansas State, as the Wildcats dropped a 61-40 decision to No. 13/14 West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Bramlage Coliseum. Knoll finished with 13 while Wesemann had 11.

The Wildcats (10-16, 4-11 Big 12) set the tone early, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers to open the game and grab a 6-0 lead. The Mountaineers (24-3, 13-2 Big 12) answered back, going on a major 32-6 run.

After a free-throw from Wesemann cut the WVU lead to 16-12, K-State went cold from the field and were held scoreless for nearly seven and a half minutes. During that time, the Mountaineers were able to build a commanding lead. Leti Romero ended the scoring drought after hitting her second three-point shot of the half. The Wildcats ended the opening period on a 7-2 run to go into halftime trailing 34-19. Romero and Wesemann each scored six in the half.

Turnovers were problematic for K-State, as the Wildcats turned the ball over 11 times in the half which resulted in 14 WVU points.

K-State came out firing in the second half, scoring nine points in the first four minutes. K-State however was unable to cut the lead to single digits, as the Mountaineers maintained the lead and built its lead to as many as 25 points.

Knoll had the hot hand for the Wildcats, scoring nine of her 13 points in the second half. The senior from Canyon, Texas provided the Wildcats a spark off the bench. Romero finished the game with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.

Poor shooting and turnovers proved to be the downfall, as K-State went 13-of-48 (27.1%) from the field and had 15 turnovers which resulted in 17 West Virginia points.

West Virginia had four players finish in double-digit scoring figures, led by Christal Caldwell with 21 points.

K-State now hits the road for a two-game road trip, when the Wildcats faceoff against Kansas on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and at No. 12 Oklahoma State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
