No. 20 Cats Slowed by No. 12 Aggies on Sunday

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- On an afternoon in which Kansas State rose the numbers of three players to the rafters of Bramlage Coliseum, Texas A&M played the spolier with a 71-45 win over the Wildcats.
Sydney Carter scored 17 points to lead Texas A&M (No. 9 ESPN/USA Today, No. 12 AP). Takia Starks added 15 points for the Aggies (22-5, 10-4 Big 12). Ashley Sweat and Marlies Gipson led the Wildcats (No. 15/20; 21-6, 8-6) with 12 points each.
Texas A&M took control early, holding Kansas State scorless for over nine minutes during a 17-0 run midway through the opening period. Consecutive 3-pointers by Kari Kincaid cut the Wildcats' deficit to nine with 7:40 remaining, but the Aggies responded with an 8-0 run and coasted to a 38-21 halftime lead.
Kansas State went on a 12-4 run -- four by Sweat -- to get within single digits with 14:32 left, but Texas A&M stopped the comeback with a 12-2 run and held a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
K-State honored the accomplishments of three players on Sunday, as Tammie Romstad (#33; 1979-82) and Priscilla Gary (#10; 1981-83) were honored during a halftime ceremony. Senior guard Shalee Lehning (#5) had her jersey raised to the rafters in a postgame ceremony, becoming the fifth player in school history to have her jersey retired.
The Wildcats will finish its home schedule on Wednesday, as No. 18/16 Texas comes to Bramlage Coliseum. K-State will honor its four seniors, Gipson, Lehning, Kelsey Nelson and Danielle Zanotti during a pregame ceremony.
