(22/rv) K-State Win Streak Ended at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa – (22/rv) Kansas State saw its four-game winning streak halted, as Iowa State held back a fourth quarter Wildcat rally for a 75-69 upset win at Hilton Coliseum on Saturday evening.
K-State (15-5, 5-3 Big 12) saw five players in double figures, led by Breanna Lewis and Kaylee Page with 14 points each. Page's effort off the bench was joined by Kayla Goth who added 10 points of her own. Shaelyn Martin tallied a complete effort with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Kindred Wesemann carded 10 points, six assists and three steals.
Iowa State (10-8, 1-6) was led by Jadda Buckley with a game-high 21 points, while Bridget Carleton added 14 points and six rebounds.
K-State shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the field, including a 54.8 percent performance in the second half. Iowa State had the hot hand, shooting 51.0 percent (26-of-51) and were 14-of-15 from the free throw line. The Cyclones tallied a 31-23 advantage on the boards.
The teams played to a stalemate in the first quarter, 14-14. Kaylee Page led the Wildcats with six points, burying a pair of 3-pointers off the bench.
Iowa State used a 15-2 run midway through the second quarter to take a 29-18 lead. Buckley and Meredith Burkhall sparked the run with the first nine points of the run. K-State was able to pull to within seven, 31-24, as Lewis scored six straight points. Lewis finished with eight points in the quarter.
Iowa State would hold a 34-26 lead at the half. K-State shot 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from the field but were forced into eight turnovers. The Cyclones shot 44.4 percent (12-of-27) from the floor and held a 15-7 edge in points off turnovers.
Martin helped K-State pull to within four at the end of the third quarter, 48-44, as she scored seven points in the frame. She knocked down an open 3-pointer from in front of K-State's bench with 2:46 left to bring K-State within three, 45-42, and then converted a layup at 2:06 to pull within one. A Buckley 3-pointer sent the Cyclones into the final quarter with the four-point lead.
K-State was able to take its first lead since the first quarter, 58-57, as Page sparked a 7-0 run with fourth 3-pointer of the evening. Lewis followed with a layup and Karyla Middlebrook converted two free throws with 5:19 left in the game.
Iowa State answered the run, as Carleton knocked down a 3-pointer and Heather Bowe stole a pass and converted the layup with 4:00 left. The Wildcats were only able to close to within two, 64-62, as Lewis finished a hook shot with 2:40 remaining. Iowa State answered with another Carleton 3-pointer and then iced the game from the foul line, going 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds.
Kansas State will end the month of January with a two-game home stand next week, as the Wildcats host (2/2) Baylor on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. K-State will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, as the K-State women's sports will have activities available on the Bramlage Coliseum concourse prior to the game.
