Bench Aids (25/rv) K-State in Win on Saturday

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Boosted by a big bench contribution and five players in double figures, (25/rv) Kansas State defeated Texas Tech on Saturday night in Bramlage Coliseum, 68-54. K-State improved to 8-1 at home this season.
Kansas State (12-4, 2-2 Big 12) was led by freshman forward Eternati Willock with 13 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Kaylee Page came off the bench to add 10 points and six rebounds. The duo were responsible for 23 of K-State's 28 points off the bench on Saturday night.
Freshman forward Peyton Williams recorded her first career Big 12 game in double figures with 10 points and five rebounds. Seniors Kindred Wesemann and Breanna Lewis added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Lewis added 10 rebounds and three blocks to her final stat line and pocketed her fourth double-double this season.
Texas Tech (10-5, 2-2) had one player reach double figures, as freshman Arella Guirantes registered 10 points.
Kansas State shot 36.4 percent (24-of-66) from the field, while Texas Tech shot 33.3 percent (21-of-63). The Wildcats had the advantage on the glass for the 12th time this season, 46-38, and held a 32-22 edge in points in the paint.
The Wildcats dashed out to a 7-0 lead, as Wesemann opened the scoring with a 3-pointer and Peyton Williams finished a pair of layups. The Lady Raiders quickly recovered a tied the game at seven. K-State took a pair of four-point leads in the remainder of the opening quarter and Texas Tech was only able to equal the game once, 11-11, with 2:17 left. The Wildcats held a 15-11 lead after the first frame, as Eternati Willock and Kaylee Page each converted jumpers in the final 2:16 of the quarter.
Texas Tech used a 9-2 run to go in front, 20-18, with 7:24 left in the second quarter. A Grayson Bright 3-pointer started the run and Bright registered the final basket of the rally with a rebound and putback.
K-State recaptured the lead, 32-22, at halftime. The Wildcats closed out the half on the strength of a 14-2 run. The Wildcats held the Lady Raiders without a made field goal for the final 7:23 of the second quarter.
Page started the rally for K-State with a rebound and putback followed by her first 3-pointer of the evening. Shaelyn Martin followed with a steal and layup to force a Texas Tech timeout.
After Texas Tech tallied a pair of free throws, K-State recorded seven straight points to close out the half. Wesemann buried her second 3-pointer of the night and Williams and Willock each converted two free throws. Willock and Page were the catalysts for K-State in the opening half, with Willock carding nine points and Page seven.
In the opening half, K-State shot just 33.3 percent (12-of-36) but tallied 10 offensive rebounds. Texas Tech was held to a 25.8 percent (8-of-31) effort from the floor in the opening half and turned the ball over nine times resulting in a 10-4 edge in points off turnovers for the Wildcats.
Despite three straight 3-pointers from Texas Tech's Dayo Olabode, K-State was able to answer each time to keep its lead at 10, 46-36, with 3:46 left in the third quarter.
The Lady Raiders broke through briefly to cut the lead to five, 46-41, with 2:41 left. Larryn Brooks scored all five points during the burst. A pair of layups from Willock helped K-State enter the fourth quarter with a 51-43 lead.
K-State was able to increase its lead to 13, 60-47, with 4:07 left in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats used a 7-2 run to pull away from the Lady Raiders, as Kayla Goth knocked down a 12-foot jumper, followed by a three-point play by Karyla Middlebrook on a layup and free throw. Williams answered a Texas Tech jumper with one of her own to force the Texas Tech timeout.
The Wildcats outscored Texas Tech 8-5 in the final 3:30 of the fourth quarter to seal the win. K-State held the Lady Raiders to 11 points in three of the four quarters on Saturday night.
