MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State women's basketball started its 49th season of action in style on Friday night, as the Wildcats defeated Chicago State, 83-33, at Bramlage Coliseum.

Kansas State (1-0) had four players reach double figures. Sophomore guard Kayla Goth led all scorers with a career-high 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Freshman Peyton Williams recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first double-double by a Wildcat in a career-debut since Kendra Wecker in her career opener in 2001.

Joining Goth and Williams in twin figures were senior guard Kindred Wesemann with 11 points and five steals and junior forward Kaylee Page with 10.

Opening night nerves affected both teams in the first quarter, as the teams combined for 16 points on a 6-of-30 shooting effort in the first stanza with K-State leading 11-5.

The Wildcats broke the game open early in the second quarter, as freshman Mercedes Brooks and Page buried 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to build a 17-5 lead and force an early Chicago State timeout.

K-State would build its lead to a first half high of 22 points, 29-7, as Goth connected on her second 3-pointer of the quarter with 4:24 remaining. Chicago State would rally and close the half with an 8-4 run to pull to within 18, 33-15.

Goth led a lightning quick 12-3 run to open the third quarter and give K-State a 45-18 lead. On consecutive possessions, she finished a pair of layups including a fastbreak reverse effort to give K-State a 39-16 lead with 8:28 remaining.

After Jessica Sheble added a rebound and putback, Goth knocked down a pair of mid-range jumpers to increase the K-State lead to 45-18 with 6:46 left in the third frame.

Following a steal and fast break layup by Chicago State's Jessica Cerda with 4:23 remaining in the third quarter, Kansas State closed the quarter on a 14-2 run to hold a 61-22 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Williams continued to work in the final quarter, as she paced the Wildcats with eight points and five rebounds over the final ten minutes.

Overall, Kansas State finished the night shooting 50.8 percent from the field (30-of-59) held Chicago State to a 17.5 percent effort (10-of-57). The Wildcats held the advantage on the boards, 51-32, and dominated the paint with a 42-10 advantage in scoring inside the lane.
