STATESBORO, Ga. – Battling cold, windy and rainy conditions, Kansas State sophomore Tim Tillmanns tallied nine birdies on Sunday and is in a tie for first place following the first two rounds of the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at the par-72, 6,876-yard Georgia Southern University Golf Course.
Tillmanns, a product of Cologne, Germany, tallied a tournament best 4-under par 68 first round score, and he finished the day 3-under par 141 to put him in a tie with South Carolina Beaufort's Dawson Peters. The co-leaders will head into Monday's final round with a four-stroke advantage over the field.
"Tim came out today and played a couple of really solid rounds in some tough conditions," head coach Grant Robbins said. "There was a steady rain most of the day with the gusty winds, and it was tough to score. I thought, overall, we definitely showed some rust early but got better as the day went on. Tomorrow is supposed to be much colder with a little more wind, so mental toughness is again going to be very important."
Junior Will Hopkins sits in seventh following a 5-over par 149, just two strokes behind fifth place. Freshman Luke O'Neill bounced back from a tough round one to shoot a 1-under par 71 second round. He enters Monday tied for 11th at 8-over par 152. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Bender sits one stroke behind O'Neill and in a tie for 13th.
Senior George Clarke is in a tie for 17th after tallying a 11-over par 155, one stroke ahead of sophomore Riccardo Leo's 12-over par 156, who is in a tie for 19th.
Monday's final round of the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate will begin with an 8:15 a.m. (ET) shotgun start, and final scores will be posted on golfstat.com following the completion of the tournament.
