MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women's golf team gained two major additions in the fall signing period as head coach Kristi Knight announced that Dutch National Team star Noa Van Beek and Wichita, Kansas native Kate Tilma will be joining the Wildcats.
Tilma, who currently stars for Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, comes to K-State with a wealth of accomplishments on the amateur circuit. In 2020, she made history by becoming the first female golfer in state history to ever win the Kansas Junior Girls (69-67-72) and the Kansas Women's Amateur (74-71-74) in the same year.
"We're thrilled to be adding Kate to the team," associate head coach Jared Helin said. "She's extremely talented and her ability to score is evident."
The Wichita product, who has competed at a variety of events throughout the region, also captured victories at the 2020 OJGT Lake Hefner Shootout and the 2020 Oklahoma Junior Tour Championship.
Tilma continued to stack up accomplishments in 2021, finishing second at the TLGT Elites Cup and winning both the North Texas Junior PGA-Texas Star Series and the North Texas PGA-Texas Star Series.
Her performances earned her a spot on the 2020-21 Texas All-Tour Team and qualification for the 2021 USGA Junior Girls Qualifier.
As a senior for Kapaun Mt. Carmel this fall, Tilma broke the GWAL record in the league tournament, carding a 6-under par 66, which included a hole-in-one. She also won the 5A Regional and placed second at the 5A State Championship.
"We love her work ethic and know she's going to make an impact quickly," Helin said.
Tilma will join an exciting young nucleus of prep stars that Knight has assembled, including current freshmen Remington Isaac and Lily Whitley, and sophomores Napua Glossner and Gabriela McNelly.
The other addition for Kansas State, Van Beek will bring her extensive international experience and success to hopefully make an immediate impact for the Cats.
"Coach Jared and I are excited to have a young lady like Noa as part of our team," Knight said.
Van Beek has been a member of the Dutch National Team for the past eight years, most notably helping them to third-place finish at the European Girls Team Championship.
"She brings tremendous competitive experience having played many tournaments in Europe, not only as an individual but as a member of the Dutch National Team," Knight said. "She has demonstrated with how she trains a strong desire to be her best and play professionally. Noa is a wonderful addition to our team."
Two other highlights of Van Beek's international career are her runner-up finishes at the 2021 Dutch National Strokeplay Championship U21 and the 2021 Dutch National Open.
"I'm very competitive and have loved the game of golf from a very young age. My goal is to play on the LPGA Tour and the Olympics," Van Beek said. "I'm very excited for this new chapter in my life at Kansas State University."
K-State will return to action February 27-28 at the Westbrook Invitational to begin its five-event spring schedule. The Wildcats are paced by team stroke average leaders Isaac and Manon Donche-Gay, both of whom had encouraging debut fall seasons, as Knight looks forward to a successful championship slate.
