K-State Looks to Continue Strong Play in Austin
Mar 12, 2021 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following a fourth-place finish earlier this week at the Spartan Collegiate, the Kansas State men's golf team returns to Texas for the first time since September to compete in the George Hannon Collegiate, held at the par-71, 7,412-yard UT Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
The George Hannon Collegiate, named after the longtime Texas coach, tees off with rounds one and two on Monday, followed by Tuesday's final round. Both days will start with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The Wildcats tallied a season best 54-hole score of 5-under par 859 earlier this week in Georgia. Sophomore Tim Tillmanns continued his impressive campaign at the Spartan Collegiate, finishing in a tie for sixth, his third-straight finish in the top 10.
"We are excited to get back at it this weekend in Texas," head coach Grant Robbins said. "I feel like this group is getting better each week, and this tournament will be a great opportunity for us to go up against some of the best teams in the country. The UT Golf Club is a fantastic layout that's going to test every aspect of our game. The biggest thing for us is to put together a solid game plan, trust our preparation, and then go have some fun competing."
K-State will use the same lineup as the Spartan Collegiate, with junior Will Hopkins in the first slot, followed by Tillmanns, freshman Luke O'Neill - who's coming off the best finish of his young career - senior George Clarke and sophomore Riccardo Leo.
Joining the Wildcats in Texas will be No. 50 Arkansas-Little Rock, No. 31 Baylor, Florida Atlantic, New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 46 TCU, No. 12 Texas, No. 19 Texas Tech, UT Arlington and West Virginia.
