Isaac in Top 10 After Two Rounds at The Bruzzy
Mar 28, 2021 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women's golfer Reid Isaac carded a 2-under par 142 over the first two rounds of The Bruzzy on Sunday at the par-72, 6,421-yard Lantana Golf Club. As a team, the Wildcats are tied for 11th at 15-over par 591.
K-State was at 2-over par 290 in the first round to stand in fifth place, but the Wildcats struggled during the afternoon 18 as they carded a 13-over par 301.
"We went out in the first round and saw a really solid score," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Then we started the second round and was immediately way over par. It was unfortunate and we cost ourselves six places in the standings. That's not why we are here. On the bright side, we did play well down the last few holes where we picked up a couple shots to par."
Isaac shot even par over the first 18 holes but was even better in the afternoon, carding a trio of birdies opposed to just one bogey. She enters Monday's final round tied for sixth place.
"As frustrating as the second round was, Reid was solid all day long, and Niamh (McSherry) hit a ton of good shots," Knight said. "She is going to hole putts tomorrow. She has given herself so many opportunities. Now it's about everybody stepping up and believing and taking care of business."
Freshman Napua Glossner - who had an eagle on the ninth hole in the first round - is tied for 43rd at 5-over par 149. She was under par in the first round as she shot a 71. Glossner is tied with Niamh McSherry, who carded a 1-over par 73 in the first round and a 4-over par 76 in the second.
Heather Fortushniak is tied for 71st at 11-over par 155, and Haley Vargas is one stroke back and in 75th place.
"We struggled in round two and had one score under 75," Knight said. "The good news in college golf is that we can have a rough second round, but we can come out the next day to have a great round and help the team. We have to stay in there and keep the energy up and fight for every shot."
Oklahoma State leads the field by an impressive 14 strokes as the Cowgirls are at 19-under par 557. On the individual leaderboard, Oklahoma State's Lianna Bailey marked a 36-hole score of 9-under par 135, which included a 6-under par 66 in the second round.
The final round of The Bruzzy is set for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Fans can follow live scoring at www.golfstat.com throughout the event.
