McCullough Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week
Apr 26, 2021 | Baseball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – After a one-hit, seven-inning performance in Saturday victory over West Virginia, K-State redshirt freshman Connor McCullough was tabbed Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
McCullough carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning of K-State's 5-2 win, as he retired 16 of the first 17 Mountaineers he faced. The right-hander struck out eight without issuing a walk in equaling his career-long outing.
The outing marked McCullough's third quality start of the season and the sixth of his career. He has logged seven innings in a start three times this season. WVU hit just .045 against him, with an infield single in the sixth inning as the Mountaineers' lone base hit of the contest.
A product of Maumelle, Arkansas, McCullough helped the Wildcats bounce back from an 11-inning defeat in the series opener. The Cats went on to win the series with a 9-4 victory in the rubber match on Sunday, claiming their second straight Big 12 series.
The honor is the first in the career of McCullough. He joins Jordan Wicks, who was named Pitcher of the Week after the season-opening weekend, as the only Wildcats to collect a weekly conference honor this year.
The Cats continue their season-long homestand as they welcome in Missouri to Tointon Family Stadium on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and the ESPN app. Radio coverage is available on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM) with free audio streaming at K-StateSports.com/watch.
