Tillmanns With Work To Do After Day One of Regional
May 17, 2021 | Men's Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – Kansas State men's golf sophomore Tim Tillmanns, who is competing in the postseason for the first time in his career, carded a 9-over par 153 over the first two rounds of the 2021 NCAA Stillwater Regional on Monday at the par-72, 7,502-yard Karsten Creek Golf Club.
Following an opening round score of 6-over par 78, Tillmanns produced a three-stroke improvement in the afternoon round to put the Cologne, Germany product in a tie for 58th place heading into Tuesday's final round.
"I know Tim is disappointed in his score, but he did a lot of good things today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "He drove the ball extremely well, only missing two fairways the entire day, which is very impressive around this place. He was pretty solid with his iron play as well. He hit it close a few times and missed in the right spots. The issue today was putting. He just never got comfortable with his speed control and missed quite a few putts inside of six feet. He just needs to trust his reads. If he can get a few putts to fall, I know he will shoot a low round tomorrow."
The lowest individual not on an advancing team will proceed to the 2021 NCAA Championship, May 28 through June 2, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Through 36 holes, Sam Houston's William Holcomb, who is currently in second place individually, would advance. Holcomb shot a 6-under par 138 on the day, and the Bearkats are in sixth place as a team, one spot shy of advancing to the championship.
Regional host Oklahoma State sits atop the leaderboard following the first two rounds at 17-under par 559. The Cowboys hold a two-stroke advantage over Illinois.
Due to potential thunderstorms in the area, Tuesday's tee times for the third and final round of the NCAA Stillwater Regional have been pushed back and will begin at 10 a.m. Live scoring can be followed along at golfstat.com.
