MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State departing seniors Brock Monty and Drew Wiley have been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
The teams, which are usually announced in November, are being announced now due to FCS playing its season in the spring. It was the first time either player has earned Academic All-District status.
Monty, who was named to the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society in April, was a four-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 performer during his career. He was nominated for Academic All-District honors with a 3.78 GPA as he earned his undergraduate degree in finance in May 2019 and has been worked on his MBA. A native of Wichita, Kansas, Monty was a model of consistency on special teams throughout his career as he played in 43 career games, including all 10 contests in 2020 when he was a team captain. He played on virtually every special-teams unit the last two year and earned votes for the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year last season.
Wiley, an animal science and industry major with a 3.73 GPA, was also named to the Hampshire Honor Society and was a three-time First Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree. He played all four years at K-State, seeing action in a total of 48 career games with 10 starts as a senior in 2020. He was named a Second Team All-Big 12 performer by the Associated Press and earned honorable mention accolades from the league's coaches last season after totaling 24 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks – all career highs – from his interior defensive lineman position.
By being named Academic All-District 7 honorees, Monty and Wiley now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees being announced on July 12.
