O’Neill Advances to Match Play in British Amateur

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Thanks to a 36-hole score of 4-under par 138, Kansas State's Luke O'Neill has advanced to match play in the 2021 British Amateur Championship conducted by the R&A at Nairn Golf Club, located on the shores of the Moray Firth in Nairn, Scotland.
O'Neill, a product of Connemara, Ireland, carded a 1-under par 70 in the first round before a bogey-free round of 3-under par 68 in the second 18 holes of stroke play. One of 144 competitors in the event, O'Neill finished in fourth place during stroke play to make the cut of 64 for match play.
O'Neill, who played in eight of the Wildcats' nine events as a freshman this past season, will take on No. 64-seed Jake Whelan in a first-round match on Wednesday morning at 9:17 a.m. local time. The second and third rounds of match play will be held on Thursday, while quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played Friday. The two competitors left in the field will square off in the finals on Saturday in a 36-hole match that will air on the R&A's YouTube and Facebook channels.
