Cats Finish Fall Tied for 10th at Steelwood Collegiate

Oct 26, 2025 | Men's Golf

LOXLEY, Ala. – The Kansas State men's golf team tried to complete its final round of the fall season on Sunday morning, but continued heavy rain and unplayable course conditions halted the final round, and the tournament was declared official at the 36-hole mark as the Wildcats tied for 10th place at the Steelwood Collegiate held at Steelwood Country Club.

K-State finished the event with a two-round total of 8-over par 584, tying with Kennesaw State and finishing five shots behind ninth-place Iowa State.

"Unfortunately, we weren't able to finish the tournament today with the weather. It was definitely a disappointing finish this week," head coach Grant Robbins said. "I am proud of how we competed – the effort was there, but we just didn't play well. I thought our ballstriking was not sharp, and we made way too many course management mistakes, and that is on me. It's important to put together a game plan that compliments the strengths of your players, and I didn't do a very good job of that this week."

The Wildcats were led by senior Alex Lindstrom, who tied for 23rd place at even-par 144 thanks to his second-round total of 4-under par 68.

Freshman Oliver Toyer finished two shots behind Lindstrom in a tie for 33rd place at 2-over par 146, followed by sophomore Fionn Dobbin in a tie for 41st place at 3-over par 147 and freshman Ville Virkkala in a tie for 46th place at 4-over par 148. Senior Shea Harmeson rounded out the scoring lineup as he tied for 75th place at 13-over par 157.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Tyler Strong tied for 64th place at 8-over par 152.

Texas A&M earned a two-shot victory over Rutgers at 10-under par 566. Memphis' Yixiang Wang claimed the individual title with a 36-hole score of 7-under par 137.

"Overall, we had a pretty good fall," Robbins said. "We have to learn from this tournament and get better. I believe we have a chance to be a very good team this spring, but this offseason is going to be crucial for us. There are a lot of areas where we need to get better, and we need to do everything we can to keep improving. I am excited to see what we can be this spring."

Kansas State will be back in action February 16-18, as the Wildcats compete in The Prestige at PGA WEST in La Quinta, California.
