Isaac, Fortushniak Named All-American Scholars
Jul 06, 2021 | Women's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women's golfers Reid Isaac and Heather Fortushniak were named to the 2020-21 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Isaac, who graduated in May with a degree in Marketing, was honored for the third-straight year, while Fortushniak, a senior-to-be who is a marketing major, picked up the accolade for the first time. The Wildcats have totaled 16 All-American Scholar accolades since 2012. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics as the minimum cumulative GPA to be considered for the award is 3.50.
The duo was part of five total Academic All-Big 12 honorees as every Wildcat that was eligible for the conference honor picked up the award. On Tuesday, they joined a cohort of 1,432 WGCA selections across all three NCAA divisions to be named to the list.
K-State put together a team stroke average of 298.17 during the 2020-21 season, which would have ranked fourth in school history had they met the minimum number of rounds played. The Wildcats collected a pair of top-four team finishes and tied for sixth in the Big 12 Championship where they were led by Fortushniak with a tie for 15th. Isaac put together a career 75.45 stroke average to rank fourth in school history, which included a 74.52 mark in 2019-20 to rank fifth in school history for a single season.
Fortushniak is one of three players returning in 2021-22 from last year's squad that saw time in at least six events as she is joined by Napua Glossner and Haley Vargas. Newcomers to the team include community-college transfer Manon Donche-Gay (Daytona State College) in addition to freshmen Remington Isaac (Montgomery [Texas] High School) – the younger sister of Reid Isaac – and Lilly Whitley (Edmond [Okla.] Memorial High School). Donche-Gay finished third in the NJCAA National Championship, while the younger Isaac finished fourth in the Texas 5A State Championship.
