Aug 11, 2021 | Men's Golf
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State men's golfer Cooper Schultz carded a 36-hole score of 2-under par 138 to advance to match play in the 121st US Amateur at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
Schultz, a product of Andover, Kansas, is the first Wildcat to qualify for match play in the US Amateur since at least 2000. The closest during that stretch was Matt Van Cleave, who missed the cut during a playoff following stroke play in 2005.
Schultz, who tied for 13th during stroke play, put together identical scores of 1-under par 69 in each of his rounds, totaling nine birdies and an eagle, the latter coming on hole No. 12 during his second 18.
Ranked as the No. 18 seed for match play, Schultz will take on No. 47 seed Luke Potter of Encinitas, California on Thursday morning beginning at 6:40 a.m. (CT). Coverage will be held throughout the day on both Peacock and Golf Channel.
