MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior Mackenzie Morris collected the final Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award for the 2022 season the conference office announced Tuesday.
Morris tied the season-high single-match dig total for the Big 12 and earned a career-high mark with 36 digs in the Cats' five-set victory against Texas Tech last Wednesday.
The tally was the most in a single match for K-State since 2019 and Morris is just the fifth Wildcat in program history to record 36 digs or more in a single match.
Her average of 5.63 digs per set was third highest in the league for the week after she picked up nine digs against No. 17 Baylor Saturday.
Her honor marks the second Big 12 weekly award for K-State after freshman Shaylee Myers was tabbed Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 4. This is Morris' third Defensive Player of the Week award in her career.
The Wildcats finished the 2022 season 15-14 and 6-10 in Big 12 play and are set to open the 2023 season in the new Morgan Family Arena next August.
