MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz announced the signings of Makinsey Jones and Symone Sims to National Letters of Intent (NLI) on the first day of the fall signing period.
Jones is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker out of Topeka West in Topeka, Kansas, while Sims is a 5-foot-5 libero out of Lebanon Trail High School in Frisco, Texas.
Jones was a three-year starter for Topeka West and led the team in kills (246) and blocks (50) in the 2021 season, adding 28 aces to the mix to help the Chargers to their best season in program history. She was named All-Shawnee County and All-Centennial League after the historic season.
In 2022, Jones has tallied a career-high 260 kills (3.5 per set) and 51 blocks (0.7 per set) in her senior season. She has eclipsed eight matches with double-figure kills and inked a season-high four aces. For her career, the middle blocker collected over 500 kills and 60 solo blocks, plus 42 aces and 142 digs.
"Makinsey is tremendous," said Fritz of Jones. "She is a wonderful athlete. She came to camp and blew our doors off. I think the thing that makes her special is that she has the ability to go off one foot as a middle. That is a special quality that can make a player elite. Makinsey has high character and is a great student and we are thrilled to have her here."
Sims was a four-year letterwinner at Lebanon Trail and named First Team All-District for District 9-5A in 2020 and hit the 1,000 career dig mark in 2021. In her career, Sims has earned 1,677 digs and 60 aces in 265 sets for the Trail Blazers.
In the 2022 season, Sims picked up 668 digs in 89 sets to average 7.5 digs per set. The defensive specialist accumuated 17 matches with 20 or more digs, including career-best 59 digs. She adds 25 aces and 87 assists to her stats.
"Symone is a wonderful addition to our team," stated Fritz. "She is athletic and has lightning fast speed. She is an unbelievable teammate and high-charater person that is going to come in and provide a tremendous amount of vaule for our team."
