MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State earned five selections to the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Teams with four earning first-team honors, as the conference office announced its annual Academic All-Big 12 Teams Tuesday.
Kadye Fernholz, Loren Hinkle, and Mackenzie Morris were three of 12 volleyball student-athletes to earn a 4.0 grade-point average, tied for the most with Texas Tech. Sophomore Molly Ramsey joined the three with first-team accolades.
Hinkle earned the third first-team nod in her career while Fernholz and Morris were each selected for the second time in their respective careers. This was Ramsey's first time on the Academic Big 12 First Team.
Haley Warner, an educational studies major, claimed second-team honors, the first of her career. She will graduate in Summer 2023 with her master's in Academic Advising.
Since 2015, 67 Wildcats have received Academic All-Big 12 accolades with 60 being named to the first team.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. A total of 85 student-athletes were honored as Academic All-Big 12, with 75 first-team selections and 10 members of the second team.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Wildcats finished the 2022 season 15-14 and 6-10 in Big 12 play and are set to open the 2023 season in the new Morgan Family Arena next August.
