
Kassanavoid and Hardy Represent at USATF 2022 Indoor Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. – On Sunday (February 27), former Kansas State Wildcat Janee' Kassanavoid and current Wildcat Monique Hardy made their marks in the women's weight throw division at the USATF 2022 Indoor Track and Field Championships in Spokane, Washington.
In order to compete at the USATF Championships, both athletes needed to throw to a mark of 22.35m within the qualifying window from January 1, 2021, and February 13, 2022.
Kassanavoid had a heave of 24.28m/79-8 in her second throw attempt, clinching the lead. The throw was a personal-best for the K-State alum, and after four more attempts, Kassanavoid was crowned the 2022 USATF women's weight throw champion for the first time in her career.
Placing eighth in the event was Hardy with a throw of 20.99m/68-10.50 on her second attempt.
Both Kassanavoid and Hardy have had impressive performances during the 2021-2022 season.
Most recently at the Steve Miller Invitational on February 18, Hardy threw a personal-best mark of 22.71m/74-6.25 in the weight throw and took home first place.
At the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on January 22, Kassanavoid made her way back to the Ahearn Field House and locked in a new facility and meet record in the weight throw division with a mark of 24.05m/78-11 in her final toss.
K-State is gearing up to send individuals to the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on March 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Competition will commence at 10 a.m. CT with the 60-meter dash of the men's heptathlon.
