
K-State's Sundell Earns Fourth Big 12 Freshman of the Week Honor

MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State freshman guard Serena Sundell recorded a stellar week against a pair of ranked opponents for the Wildcats, resulting in her fourth Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor this season.
Sundell is one of two players in the league this season to earn four Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors (Rori Harmon, Texas).
As a team, K-State has collected eight Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors this season with Sundell's four, Brylee Glenn with three and Jaelyn Glenn with one have earned the honors. Overall, K-State has received a Big 12 weekly honor 12 times this season when including Ayoka Lee's four Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
For the week, Sundell averaged 20.0 points, on 51.7 percent shooting including 42.9 percent from 3-point range while also averaging 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks while playing 80 of a possible 80 minutes of action. Sundell ranked third in the Big 12 for scoring average for the week.
Against (11/12) Texas, Sundell notched a team-high 16 points with three assists, three rebounds and two blocks.
Leading the Wildcats on Saturday at (20/19) Oklahoma, Sundell tallied a game-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting and tied her career-high with five connections from 3-point range. Sundell also added seven assists, no turnovers and two steals. This was Sundell's fourth career game with 20 or more points and her sixth career game with 15 or more points and five or more assists.
Sundell is the first K-State freshman guard to tally 150 or more assists and 40 or more connections from beyond the arc in their debut season. Sundell is the only freshman in the nation this season with 150 or more assists and 40 or more 3-point field goals made.
For the season, Sundell is averaging 10.2 points, 5.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds. Sundell's 155 assists are the most by any freshman in the Big 12 this season and ranks second in the nation.
K-State will wrap up its 2021-22 home schedule on Wednesday, March 2, as the Wildcats host West Virginia at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday's game is Senior Night, as K-State will honor its seniors – Cymone Goodrich, Laura Macke, Rachel Ranke and Savannah Simmons – in a postgame ceremony.
