SHAWNEE, Okla. – Three Wildcats, Cooper Schultz, Nicklaus Mason and Ethan Miller, completed the first round of The Indy on Friday at the par-70, 6,979-yard Shawnee Country Club.
The Indy, true to its name, is an individual tournament made of a 30-player field from eight different schools, including Arkansas, Kansas, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech.
After 18 holes, Mason finds himself tied for second place and in great position at 2-over par 72, which puts him four shots off the lead. The freshman had a huge birdie on the final hole to keep that second place spot.
Schultz, a redshirt freshman, recorded a 9-over par 79 first round and is tied for 19th place. Miller, a sophomore, is in 28th place at 18-over par 88.
Texas Tech's Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas leads the event thanks to a 2-under par 68 first round.
The second round was scheduled to be played Friday afternoon, but was canceled due to inclement weather. It will now be a 36-hole event.
These three will hope to finish strong when play concludes tomorrow with a shotgun start to begin the final round at 11 a.m. Fans can follow live scoring on Golfstat.com.
