Mason Claims Top-Five Finish at The Indy

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Nicklaus Mason closed out "The Indy", held at the par-70, 6,979-yard Shawnee Country Club, with a strong final round on Saturday en-route to a fifth place finish. Mason was joined at the individual event by Ethan Miller and Cooper Schultz.
The Indy was originally scheduled to last three rounds and 54 holes, but Friday's second round was canceled due to inclement weather which forced the event to be condensed to just 36-holes.
Mason carded a 3-over par 73 second round to bring his final score to 5-over par 145 and capture the highest finish of his young career and first finish in the top-five.
"It was a solid tournament for Nick," head coach Grant Robbins said. "He played a great round yesterday in some really tough conditions and got himself in contention."
A double-bogey on hole No. 13 almost derailed his round, but the freshman from Shawnee, Kansas, responded like a veteran with four pars and a birdie in the last five holes to ensure his spot in the top-five.
"He ran into a little trouble on the back with a three-putt bogey on hole No. 12 and a double on hole No. 13 but did a great job bouncing back by going one under on his last five holes," Robbins said. "It was a good experience for him and something he will get better from."
Mason now has three career top-20 finishes, with his previous career high coming last fall at the Wildcat Invitational in a tie for 12th place.
Schultz, a redshirt freshman, tied for 24th place at 20-over par 160 after recording an 11-over par 81 final round. Miller, a sophomore, carded a 10-over par 80 second round and finished in 29th place at 28-over par 168.
Texas Tech's Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas came away with the championship at even-par 140.
This was great extra play for these three Wildcats before the Kansas State men's golf team returns to action at the Mossy Oak Invitational on April 11-12.
