K-State Announces Spring Volleyball Schedule
Mar 06, 2022 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz revealed the Wildcats' spring volleyball schedule, featuring four competition dates, including a home exhibition with Wichita State on March 7 at Bramlage Coliseum.
"We are fortunate to have 11 women in the gym training this spring, adding early high school graduates Ava LeGrand and Dalia Wilson, along with transfer Elena Baka," said head coach Suzie Fritz. "The team is in a great place, with a large number of seniors and returners back for next season and hungry for more. We've played a competition schedule for three consecutive semesters during the pandemic, and this is our first traditional spring season with this group that allows us to really develop our individual and collective skill and dig into player development.
"They are all in right now and we've been really excited and impressed with their collaborative efforts and desire to find another level as a team. Coach Jeff Grove does an excellent job and most of the heavy lifting in regards to putting together an effective non-conference spring schedule. He's put together several events that allow us to have both training opportunities and competitive experiences with some great regional teams and competition."
The Wildcats and Shockers will have a joint train and play practice session, as the teams will train together at approximately 5:15 p.m. before competing in a scrimmage match at approximately 6:30 p.m. All fans are welcome to attend the train and play session for free, with the Bramlage Coliseum doors opening at 5 p.m.
Fans are asked to park in the West Lot of Bill Snyder Family Stadium and enter through the Northwest Gate at Bramlage Coliseum.
All traffic attempting to access the West Lot should enter through Gate 3 on College Avenue, or Gate 5 on Kimball Avenue. Fans coming from the east on Tuttle Creek Boulevard (US 24) will need to detour north to Marlatt Avenue, to avoid construction on Kimball. For road construction information, closures and details see routing information for Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Bramlage Coliseum on the Waze app.
Following their home exhibition, the Cats will then head to Omaha for an all-day tournament hosted by the Omaha Mavericks on Saturday, April 2.
K-State, along with Kansas City, will co-host a tournament at Sweeney Gymnasium in Kansas City. Teams competing will be Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas City, K-State, Northern Iowa, Rockhurst, Saint Louis and South Dakota with play beginning at 10 a.m.
The fourth and final competition will be against Minnesota, as the teams will meet at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, on Saturday, April 23.
K-State retains eight letterwinners from last season's NCAA Tournament team, with four seniors and three juniors. The Wildcats have also added three newcomers to their spring roster in early high school graduates LeGrand and Wilson along with Saint Mary's transfer Baka.
