MANHATTAN, Kan. – As recognition for their performance in the classroom, two members of the Kansas State men's golf team — Will Hopkins and Ethan Miller — were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Teams, the conference announced Wednesday.
Hopkins represented K-State on the first team. It's the first Academic All-Big 12 appearance for the senior from Lincolnshire, England.
To qualify for first team selection, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA.
Miller, a sophomore, was placed on the second team, where members must hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. This is also his first appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 list.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible for selection in their first year of academic residence. Other eligibility requirements include a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in the two previous semesters, along with competing in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
The conference named 61 men's golfers to the list with 49 members on the first team and 12 on the second team.
This great news from the classroom comes as the Wildcats are having one of the best years in school history. K-State has captured five top-five finishes in eight stroke-play events this season, and the Cats' current team stroke average sits at 285.08, which is the best mark in school history.
K-State has one event remaining in the regular season, the Hawkeye Invitational, this Saturday and Sunday, which will be a great test before postseason play begins with the Big 12 Championship, April 25-27.
