No. 53 K-State Overpowered by No. 29 Kansas in Final Road Matchup

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 53 Kansas State women's tennis team dropped their final regular season match 4-0 on Saturday (April 16) to instate rival No. 29 Kansas at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
 
K-State is now 9-12 (1-8 Big 12), while the Jayhawks elevate to a record of 14-9 (4-5 Big 12).
 
Senior doubles pair Karine-Marion Job and Maria Linares were on top during their doubles match as they were victorious against Kansas' Sonia Smagina and Raphaelle Lacasse 6-2 in the number one spot.
 
New doubles duo senior Ioana Gheorghita and sophomore Manami Ukita tried their hand in the number two spot against the Jayhawks' Carmen Roxana Manu and Maria Titova. It was Kansas who took the set 6-1.
 
The doubles point came down to court three. Doubles squad freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Anna Turco put up a fight against Julia Deming and Malkia Ngounoue. The set came down to a tiebreaker, but it went to KU at the end 7-6.
 
Dropping in singles play was Job against Ngounoue on court two. Ngounoue maintained control throughout the two sets and came out on top 6-1, 6-4.
 
Dekkers was defeated by Smagina in the number three spot as the Netherland native lost 6-4, 6-4.
 
Clinching the match for Kansas was Tiffany Lagarade against Turco. Turco took set one 6-3, but fell in the end 6-1, 6-2.
 
The Wildcats will prepare to head off to Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday (April 21) for the first round of the 2022 Big 12 Tennis Championships hosted by TCU. Final seeding and bracket assignments will be announced at a later date.
