‘Cats Seeded Ninth and Play TCU in First Round of Big 12 Tournament

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 9 seeded Kansas State women's tennis will play in the first round of the 2022 Big 12 Tennis Championships on Thursday (April 21) at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
K-State (9-12, 1-8 Big 12) will take on the No. 8 seeded TCU Horned Frogs (12-13, 2-7 Big 12) at 10 a.m., CT.
The winner of the first round will then take on No. 1 seed Oklahoma (25-1, 9-0 Big 12) on Friday (April 22) in the quarterfinals at 12 p.m., CT.
Heading into the tournament, senior Maria Linares leads the Wildcats in singles with a record of 13-3. Linares has played in the one, two and three positions this season and has a record of 5-1 in the number one spot and is undefeated, 3-0, at number three.
The senior doubles pair of Linares and Karine-Marion Job have an overall dual record of 10-6, including 6-5 in the number one spot. The duo of freshman Dinara Alloyarova and senior Anna Turco have a 6-3 record in doubles at the number three spot.
Currently, the Wildcats are ranked 54th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
The last time the Horned Frogs and Wildcats saw each other was on March 20 in Manhattan, Kansas. TCU walked away victorious, 4-2.
K-State was ahead early on in the match after winning the doubles point. Job and Linares defeated TCU, 6-1, at the number one position, while freshman Florentine Dekkers and senior Ioana Gheorghita took down the Horned Frogs, 6-1, at the number three spot.
Sophomore Manami Ukita had the only singles point for the Wildcats, as she defeated Addy Guevara, 6-4, 6-2. The match was Ukita's first singles match of the spring season.
