Wildcats Still With Work to Do in Texas

HOCKLEY, Texas - With one round remaining in the 2022 Big 12 Championship, the Kansas State women's golf team is in ninth place at 52-over par 620.
The Wildcats carded their second 26-over par 310 round of the event on Saturday at the par-71, 6,249-yard Houston Oaks Golf Club.
"A handful of holes continue to hold us back and keep our scores up," head coach Kristi Knight said. "They are giving great effort."
Haley Vargas, a junior, continues to lead K-State on the leaderboard in a tie for 26th place at 10-over par 152. Vargas recorded a 7-over par 78 second round, but she was able to rack up four more birdies, bringing her event total to six.
In a tie for 31st place at 12-over par 154 sits Napua Glossner, who tallied an 8-over par 79 second round.
Heather Fortushniak, the lone senior competing this weekend for the Wildcats, shot a 6-over par 77 second round and is now tied for 36th place at 13-over par 155. Forthusniak has also tallied six birdies.
Manon Donche-Gay and Remington Isaac are next to each other on the leaderboard with one stroke separating them. Donche-Gay shot a 6-over par 77 and is in 43rd place at 18-over par 160, while Isaac is in 44th place at 19-over par 161 after a 7-over par 78 on Saturday.
"Scoring is higher than normal as this course is a great test of golf," Knight said. "It's about grinding out pars."
No. 14 Texas moved into first place at 10-over par 578 behind a 3-over 287 par second round. Lianna Bailey shot a 3-under par 68 second round and is now the leader on the individual leaderboard at 4-under par 138.
K-State will attempt to finish the season with a strong final round when the Big 12 Championship concludes tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. Fans can follow live scoring on Golfstat.com.
