Jun 16, 2022 | Women's Basketball
MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State women's basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has promoted current coaching staff member Staci Gregorio to co-Coordinator of Recruiting Operations and Skill Development Coach for the 2022-23 season.
"Staci has worked hard and has been an important part of our success here," said Mittie about the elevation. "I am excited to promote her to this new role. It is well deserved as she continues to grow as a coach and expand her role within our program."
Gregorio is in her fourth season as a member of Mittie's K-State staff. During the 2021-22 season, Gregorio served the program as the Director of Student-Athlete Development, Analytics and Video Operations. In her first two seasons in Manhattan, Gregorio was the Director of Video Operations.Â
"I am incredibly grateful to Coach Mittie for an opportunity to grow in this new role," stated Gregorio. "For me, it is all about our players and creating an environment that allows them to succeed on and off the court. This position allows me to do that in a greater capacity. K-State has become a home to me these past few years so to be able to move into this new role, fulfill my passion for the game, and help players feel empowered is sort of a dream come true. I am excited for my future here, the future of our program and the future of each one of our student athletes who come to K-State."
Gregorio's responsibilities will include: management of recruiting, organization and coordination of on-campus visits and cultivation and maintenance of relationships with high school and junior college coaches, editing film clips for the coaching staff and players, assisting the coaching staff in collecting and editing film of recruits.
Prior to joining the Wildcats, Gregorio served as an assistant coach and video coordinator for two seasons at UC San Diego. During her time with the Tritons, she aided a program that went 58-5 and captured two California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season titles, a CCAA Tournament crown and a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.
Before her time at UC San Diego, Gregorio was the head coach of The Preuss School girl's basketball team from 2014-17. In four years, Gregorio tripled the team's win total, coached five all-conference selections and served as a fundraising and travel coordinator. She was also a skills development coach for Hoop Blessings in San Diego, training semi-professional, Division I, II and III athletes through CoachUp.
Gregorio played professionally in Europe for two seasons, first for BC Hellenen in Munich, Germany in 2014-15 and then C.E. Diagonal Mar in Barcelona, Spain in 2016-17. She was the starting point guard for both teams and led C.E. Diagonal Mar in points per game, free throw percentage and assists per game.
Collegiately, Gregorio played for San Diego Mesa College where she earned All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) First Team honors in 2014 and was team captain. She received her bachelor's degree in politics and government from Pacific University in 2010, and earned her master's degree in sports coaching from the University of Denver in 2017.
K-State completed its 54th season of action in 2021-22 with a 20-13 overall record, its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance and advanced to the second round for the third time in four NCAA Tournament bids under head coach Jeff Mittie.
The Wildcats will be led by 2022 consensus All-American and three-time All-Big 12 First Team selection Ayoka Lee, who averaged 22.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game last season. Joining Lee is a trio of rising sophomores, Serena Sundell, Brylee Glenn and Jaelyn Glenn. Brylee Glenn and Sundell were named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team with Sundell also awarded All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
The Wildcats will enter the 2022-23 season two wins shy of 1,000 in its history. Mittie will begin the 2022-23 season one victory shy of 600 in his coaching career and five wins short of 150 during his time in Manhattan.
