Aug 24, 2022 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz has appointed former Abilene Christian standout Jacey Smith as the team's volunteer assistant coach for the 2022 season, the 22-year head coach announced Wednesday.
"We are excited to have Jacey join our coaching staff in a volunteer capacity," said Fritz. "She has been with us for a little over a week now and has impressively and seamlessly added a tremendous amount of value to our staff. She's an excellent communicator and as a strong foundation for coaching volleyball."
Smith, an outside hitter, was a four-year letterwinner for ACU (2015-18) and left as the program's Division I-era leader in kills (1,185), aces (95) and points (1,390.5). A two-time All-Southland Conference Second Team honoree, Smith led the Wildcats to a runner-up finish in the Southland Conference in 2017.
Before coming to K-State, Smith most recently served as assistant coach at McMurry University (Division III). There, she led recruiting efforts in signing four players during the spring in addition to leading and organizing practices, facilities and academics.
Smith spent three seasons at Mary Hardin-Baylor as both an assistant coach and a graduate assistant, helping The Cru to a 64-12 (.842) overall record and 46-3 (.939) mark during conference play, as UMHB claimed three American Southwest Conference West Division titles.
With Smith's help, Mary Hardin-Baylor earned the ASC West Coaching Staff of the Year Award in the spring of 2021. Smith handled the workload of a full-time assistant, including building scouting reports, leading team meetings, team defense and serve receive duties in addition to travel preparations.
A native of Abilene, Texas, Smith earned her bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management from ACU in 2019. She then received her master's in sport administration from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2021.
The Wildcats officially begin their 2022 season Friday as they host the annual K-State Invitational. The Cats will open with a Friday doubleheader against Sam Houston (12 p.m.) and NC State (7:30 p.m.). The two-day tournament will conclude Saturday with a matchup with Florida A&M at 12:30 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum.
Season and single-game tickets for the 2022 season are now on sale and can be purchased at K-StateSports.com/Tickets, calling 1-800-221-CATS or by stopping by the K-State Athletics Ticket Office inside Bramlage Coliseum.
