MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head men's golf coach Grant Robbins announced Wednesday the signing of three golfers – two international players and one from the state of Kansas – to National Letters of Intent for the 2024-25 season.
The signing class includes Fionn Dobbin from Northern Ireland, Erik Sabelstrom Holmberg from Sweden and Tyler Strong from Olathe, Kansas.
"We are very excited about this signing class," Robbins said. "Not only are we adding some extremely talented players, but they are also of high character, very disciplined and are exceptional students in the classroom. Coach Cullen Carstens and I can't wait to get them to Manhattan and start working with them."
Dobbin, who hails from Lisburn in Northern Ireland, is a member of the Irish National Team where he competed in the 2022 and 2023 Home Internationals in addition to the 2023 European Boys Team Championship. Rated the No. 2 player in Ireland and 75th overall for U18 in the European Golf Rankings, Dobbin won the 2023 Edge Golf Championship in Portugal in addition to a third-place finish in the 2022 Irish Boys Championship, a top-10 showing in the 2022 Italian International Boys Championship and a top-20 finish in the 2023 European Boys Championship Stroke Play. He also advanced to match play in the 2023 British Boys Championship in England.
"Fionn is a fantastic player who has had success competing all over Europe," Robbins said. "He is long off the tee, has a great short game and is extremely competitive. I look for him to have a big impact here right away."
"We are really excited to have Erik join us next season," said Robbins. "In addition to being an outstanding golfer, he was also an exceptional ice hockey player. He is big, strong and very athletic, and he has tremendous length off the tee. Erik also has a competitive drive that is going to help him excel on the college level."
"Tyler is extremely talented and has the potential to be an outstanding player on the college level," Robbins said. "As the reigning Kansas Junior Amateur Champion, he has demonstrated the ability to shoot low scores as well as the ability to win. He is a hard worker, excels in the classroom and will be a great fit in our program."
