
Morris, Fernholz Collect CSC Academic All-District Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Seniors Mackenzie Morris and Kadye Fernholz were awarded for their efforts in the classroom and on the court, as the duo was tabbed to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, announced by the organization Tuesday.
The academic all-district honors are the second for both Fernholz and Morris' respective careers as each received all-district recognition last season. Fernholz and Morris were selected as CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 9, 2024.
Morris, the 2022 Big 12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, has turned in a perfect 4.0 grade point average in accounting throughout her time at K-State while on the court, she accumulated 1,733 career digs.
In 2023, Morris played in all 27 matches on the court and was one of three players to see time in all 97 sets this season. She led the league in digs per set (4.82) and total digs (468), finishing 33rd and 35th nationally. The Dallas, Texas product had double-digit digs in all but two of matches this season, reaching a season-best 34 on November 3 against KU.
A middle blocker from Miller, South Dakota, Fernholz appeared in 88 sets this season in addition to maintaining a 3.88 grade point average as an elementary education major. She finished fourth on the team with a .275 hitting efficiency, picking up totals of 100 kills and 51 blocks.
The three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree ended her career with 336 total blocks which ranks ninth in the rally-scoring era (since 2001).
K-State (16-11, 10-8 Big 12) tied sixth in the Big 12 standings under first-year head coach Jason Mansfield. The Wildcats registered a program record of five Top 25 victories, including four consecutive sweeps over nationally ranked opponents inside the Morgan Family Arena.
