K-State Drops Tough Match to Tulsa, 4-3

MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team fought hard before falling 4-3 to Tulsa on Saturday (Feb. 11) at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Tulsa (6-3) won the doubles point giving them the early advantage over K-State (1-6), while both teams split the six singles matches.
Junior Manami Ukita's match against Lian Benedejcic in the No. 5 spot was the last singles match to end, as she won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Freshman Maria Santos won her first singles match of the season with a straight set win over Amy Leather at the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Florentine Dekkers also earned a point for the Wildcats with a straight-set victory at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Lily Hutchings.
Freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska was defeated by Laia Conde Monfort 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 1 position. Freshman Vanesa Suárez battled against Maria Berlanga in the No. 2 spot, but dropped both sets 6-2, 6-4. Senior Rosanna Maffei lost her match in the No. 4 spot to Myroslava Zelenchuk 6-0, 6-4.
The Wildcats won one doubles match, Maffei and Santos, against Laia Conde Monfort and Ana Naranjo Martinez, 6-2.
