Suarez Defeats Second Ranked Opponent, Wildcats Drop Match 6-1 to Texas

K-State will play Baylor on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT at Body First Tennis Center
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team dropped their match 6-1 against No. 14 Texas on Friday (March 17) at the Body First Tennis Center, as freshman Vanesa Suarez defeated her second straight ranked opponent.
The Wildcats (2-13, 0-3 Big 12) competed in their first Big 12 match at home against No. 14 Texas (11-3, 2-1 Big 12) but the last three courts could not hold on, dropping the third conference match 6-1.
Suarez was the only point for K-State, clinching the win in straight sets against No. 101 Sabina Zeynalova 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, in the No. 3 spot. She is now on a two-match singles win streak.
Sophomore Florentine Dekkers dropped her match to Nicole Khirin in the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-2.
Junior Manami Ukita in the No. 4 position lost to Malaika Raplou 6-2, 6-4. Her three-win singles match streak ends after her last match against Anna Supapitch Kuearum of Iowa State was left unfinished.
Junior Aleen Quamar competed against No. 91 Marlee Zein in the No. 5 spot and was defeated 6-4, 7-5.
Freshman Rozalia Gruszczynska was the last one to start competing in the No. 6 position, being defeated by Nicole Rivkin 6-2, 6-0.
Senior Rosanna Maffei retired her match against No. 58 ranked Charlotte Chavatipon after the first set 6-3.
Texas won the doubles point, as the Longhorns' No. 27 ranked doubles team of Charlotte Chavatipon and Sabina Zeynalova defeated Dekkers and Quamar 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Suarez and Ukita battled against Nicole Khirin and Marlee Zein, losing 6-4 in the No. 1 position. Gruszczynska and Maffei's match in the No. 3 spot against Taisiya Pachkaleva and Nicole Rivkin was left unfinished 4-3.
The Wildcats will face No. 53 Baylor (8-9, 0-3 Big 12) on Sunday (March 19) at the Body First Tennis Center at 12 p.m. CT.
