
Wildcats in Fourth After Day One in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Highlighted by a 15-under par second round, the 25th-ranked Kansas State men's golf team is in fourth place following the first day of the Tiger Collegiate Invitational held Monday at the par-72, 7,221-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Wildcats, who shot a 281 in the first round and are at 22-under par 554 for the event, are just one stroke back of Marquette for third place. K-State's second-round tally of 273 tied for the 10th-lowest round in school history and the fourth lowest this season.
The afternoon 18 was powered by sophomore Cooper Schultz, who carded a career-low and bogey-free round of 8-under par 64, a mark that is tied for third in school history.
Schultz's tally was the lowest by a Wildcat since Will Hopkins also carded a 64 at the Club at Old Hawthorne two years ago. A product of Andover, Kansas, Schultz shot even par in the morning before flying 31 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for eighth place.
The Wildcats also received low second-round scores from Hopkins and Tim Tillmanns. A native of Lincolnshire, England, who is ranked No. 93 in the Golfstat Top 100, Hopkins is tied for 13th place at 6-under par 138, which included a 5-under par 67 in the afternoon. Tillmanns, a product of Cologne, Germany who is ranked 99th in the nation, carded a 67 in the morning and a 68 in the afternoon, as he enters Tuesday's final round tied for sixth place at 9-under par 135.
Competing as an individual, Luke O'Neill is also in the top 10 as he is tied for eighth place at 8-under par 136. His day was propped up by a first-round score of 6-under par 66, which tied his career low.
Rounding out K-State's scoring lineup through 36 holes are a pair of sophomores in Nicklaus Mason and Laurenz Schiergen. Mason is tied for 45th at 1-over par 145, while Schiergen is tied for 51st at 2-over par 146.
Fifth-ranked Illinois holds a sizable lead at 46-under par 530, followed by host-school Missouri at 31-under par 545. Illini golfers occupy the top two spots on the individual leaderboard in Jackson Buchanan at 16-under par 128 and Adrien Dumont de Chassart at 12-under par 132.
The final round of the Tiger Collegiate Invitational will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Live results can be followed at Golfstat.com.
