
K-State in Ninth After Day One of Big 12 Championship

DALLAS, Texas - The Kansas State women's golf team carded a 23-over par 311 on Friday during the first round of the 2023 Big 12 Championship held at the par-72, 6,215-yard Dallas Athletic Club. The Wildcats are in ninth place and five shots back of No. 8 Texas.
On a course that saw only six players go even or under par, K-State was led during the opening round by Manon Donche-Gay at 3-over par 75. A product of Avignon, France, Donche-Gay was in the top 10 before a double-bogey on No. 16. However, she righted the ship with two pars to close out her round in a tie for 22nd and keep her in contention for a medalist spot.
Next on the leaderboard for the Wildcats is Haley Vargas, who shot a 5-over par 77 on Friday and is tied for 28th place. A product of Lubbock, Texas, Vargas bookended her round with birdies on No. 1 and 18. One shot behind Vargas is Remington Isaac who is tied for 32nd.
Freshman Noa Van Beek is tied for 40th following a first-round score of 9-over par 81, while Napua Glossner is in 43rd place after a 10-over par 82.
No. 34 Texas Tech leads the field at 3-over par 291 as the Red Raiders have three players in the top 10. Iowa State's Pimkwan Chookaew paces the field on the individual leaderboard thanks to a round of 5-under par 67, four shots ahead of a tie for second place.
K-State will tee off the second round of the 2023 Big 12 Championship on Saturday at 8 a.m., as the Wildcats will be paired with Kansas and Texas. Live results can be followed at Golfstat.com.
