Huskers Hand K-State 6-1 Loss Tuesday

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Four Huskers recorded multiple hits to help Nebraska defeat K-State, 6-1, on Tuesday night at Tointon Family Stadium.
"We created opportunities for Nebraska to score runs," said head coach Pete Hughes. "We gave them base runners and allowed them to advance."
The Wildcats (19-12) were held to one run for just the second time this season with an RBI single by Cash Rugely. The senior went 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk to extend his on-base streak out to 13.
"We had our opportunities to win the game. When you leave 11 guys on base at some point someone has to get a hit, but sometimes you don't get the hit and that's the game of baseball," said Hughes.
Mason Buss (3-1) was credited with his first loss of the season after allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits during his five innings. The freshman struck out four Huskers in his third collegiate start.
"I thought we pitched well enough to let our offense build something, but we just couldn't get the job done tonight."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska opened scoring in the second frame after capitalizing on a pair of hit batters to score two runs.
The Wildcats plated their lone run in the bottom of the inning as Jayden Lobliner was hit by a pitch before the freshman advanced to second on a single from Brendan Jones. With two outs, Rugely laced a 1-0 pitch into right field to score the run.
Rugely stole second in the next at bat before Brady Day walked to load the bases but a line out to third preserved the Huskers lead.
After four scoreless innings, the Huskers expanded their lead to three when Brice Matthews doubled down the left field line. Nebraska plated two runs in the ninth to make it a 6-1 ball game.
Rugely roped his third hit of the game down the right field line but the Huskers retired two straight batters to end the rally.
