SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Kansas State women's golf team earned a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma but fell by that same margin to Kansas as the Wildcats concluded their time at the Big 12 Match Play on Saturday at Kierland Golf Club.
K-State tied with Oklahoma for eighth place with 12.5 overall points, but the Sooners advanced to Saturday afternoon's semifinal round as they earned more victories over the six pool play matches.
"We're obviously disappointed to not advance to bracket play by losing the tie breaker, but there are no excuses as we came up a half point short after six matches in two days," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I'm proud of their effort. They played hard, and there is a lot to take from this. We now have two weeks to prepare for the Big 12 Championship."
Senior Haley Vargas and junior Napua Glossner led the way for K-State on Saturday as they each won both of their matches. Vargas had two dominating victories, defeating Oklahoma's Mikhaela Fortuna, 7&5, and Kansas' Lauren Clark, 4&3. Glossner picked up a 4&2 victory over Sooner Kaylee Vesely and a 2&1 triumph over Jayhawk Johanna Ebner.
Manon Donche-Gay also earned a victory over Oklahoma by defeating Reagan Chaney, 2&1.
Next up for K-State is the Big 12 Championship, April 21-23, at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas.
