May 10, 2023 | Women's Golf
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kansas State senior women's golfer Haley Vargas saw her season come to an end on Wednesday after the final round of the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional at the Oaks Course of TPC San Antonio.
Vargas - who plans to return next season to utilize her extra year of eligibility - recorded a 13-over par 85 during the final 18 holes. She finished the regional in a tie for 54th place at 22-over par 238.
"Haley is obviously disappointed with her final result," head coach Kristi Knight said. "However, she should be extremely proud to have earned an NCAA bid. I know Coach Jared (Helin) and I are. There is no failure here. It stings now, but she will continue to strive to get better every day."
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Vargas' bid into the NCAA San Antonio Regional marked the fifth time a Wildcat competed in the postseason as an individual. She finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 73.90 stroke average to rank third in school history and will enter her final year of eligibility in seventh place in K-State history with a 75.83 career stroke average.
UTSA individual Camryn Carreon won the regional to advance to the NCAA Championship thanks to a 54-hole score of 10-under par 206. SMU and Pepperdine tied for the team title at 9-over par 873. Also advancing to the NCAA Championship out of the San Antonio Regional was Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and New Mexico.
