May 17, 2023 | Volleyball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State head coach volleyball coach Jason Mansfield has appointed John Dunn as the team's third assistant coach for the 2023 season.
"We are so excited to welcome John to K-State," Mansfield said. "He is a very promising young coach who I got a chance to work with at Washington last season. John's passion for the game, attention to detail, and his willingness to learn and grow make him a perfect fit for what we're trying to build here at K-State."
Dunn arrives in Manhattan after spending the past season as a graduate assistant at Washington prior to his promotion to assistant coach following the 2022 season. With the Huskies, Dunn assisted in player development and performance analysis while helping the program to its 21st-consecuitve NCAA Tournament appearance.
"I want to thank Jason Mansfield for this amazing opportunity to join him as he starts this journey at K-State," said Dunn. "It's clear that he is building something special here in Manhattan and I wanted to be a part of it. At Washington, I saw firsthand what he is about and what he believes in, and I can't wait to get started."
"I cannot express how grateful I am to Keegan Cook and Leslie Gabriel for the opportunities they gave me at Washington. I'm forever grateful to them both for their friendship and mentorship. Lastly, I want to thank my longtime coach, mentor, and friend Heather Moore-Martin for introducing me to the sport of volleyball. I wouldn't be here today without her," said Dunn.
Dunn completes the Wildcats' assistant coaching staff under Mansfield, which includes associate head coach Steve Astor and fellow assistant coach Fiona Fonoti. He also joins a support staff that includes Director of Volleyball Operations Quinn Roche.
Before his time at UW, Dunn served as the president of the University of Arizona's men's volleyball club where he managed the team operations. As president, he helped oversee the B team that won the 2022 National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) Division III National Championship.
Dunn spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Ariz. He was the head coach of the girls' junior varsity and boys' freshman volleyball programs while he also served as an assistant coach to the varsity programs. He compiled a 42-4 overall record as a head coach and helped girls' varsity team to an AIA 4A Conference State Championship.
A native of Tucson, Dunn played one season on the men's volleyball team at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina before he earned a Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis in sports and society from Arizona in May 2022. Dunn is currently working towards his master's degree in education.
